This rare pair of c. 1774 English salts were the original examples used by Myer Myers to make the matching pair of coin silver salts, sold at Sotheby’s Important Americana sale in New York, January 22 & 23, 2010. We originally listed both this pair by London silversmith Robert Hennell I & the Myers salts on E-Bay. The Myers salts sold on E-Bay for a fraction of the $62,500.00, plus buyers commission, later realized at Sotheby’s. Hennell is a noted craftsman known to be active in the last quarter of the 18th century.

The stunning cellars are 3 5/8 inches (92mm) long by 2 11/16 inches(69mm) wide and 2 1/4 inches (57mm) tall ; weight is 5 1/4 ounces (148 grams) for the pair. Cellars are marked on the side, “Date code T” for 1774 – “London Shield”, “Sterling Lion”, “RH” in an oval. We now offer the pair Myers used as a model for his salts. We will gladly answer any questions or e-mail any photos requested.
