This is a rare and wonderful piece of Confederate era African American History (probably Free Men). This is the “Rules, Regulations & By-Laws / For the better management of the Sabbath / M. E. Church” of Mobile, Ala. March 17, 1865. Committee and Framers are, Thomas H. Raymond – Samuel Wilson – Fenton Jackson – Chas. Blackledge – John W. Henderson & Emile Henry. Our research has found several of these gentlemen in city directories and they remain, after the war, prominent citizens. Document is signed in pencil on the front, “W P Scott esq.” and on the back is written, “Mrs. Julia W P Scott & Mrs. Julis W. Scott”. Document is 13 1/8″ long and 6″ wide and in very good condition, creased in four parts and some damage around the edges, but paper is sound.
